Fiberotomy
Thousands of gum fibers attach to your teeth and help position them in the jaw. When teeth are moved or rotated, these fibers are stretched and act like rubber bands which want to pull the teeth back into their original position.
A fiberotomy procedure releases these stretched fibers once the tooth is moved or rotated in to the correct position and allows them to re-attach in an unstrained position. This new attachment will help maintain the new position and minimize the chance of relapse to the previous unfavorable position.
Your orthodontist will determine which teeth will benefit from a fiberotomy procedure and indicate the best timing for the procedure. The fiberotomy procedure is simple and done with local anesthetic in 10 minutes. You can resume your normal daily activities immediately following your appointment without any problems.
